Mic Newman – Knickerbocker EP

There is no denying the Knickerbocker EP reaches new heights for Mic, as both as a producer and writer. The melodic elements throughout the record mark new musical ground for the young Melbourne resident, combined with larger bass sounds and experimental percussion. It’s clear that Newman has found his stride and this release will no doubt see him leaving our fair shores for greener pastures in Europe.

The Love Quadrant (Space Dimension Controller Edit)

An incredible touch up of a perfect track. Jack Hamill aka Space Dimension Controller put this together whilst bored in his hotel room in Sydney. Not sure who is looking after him there, but he’s sure to have a wonderful time in Adelaide when hosted by Sidewalk at Cuckoo.

Nik Frattaroli – Under Attack EP

Cambridge’s (UK) Sangoma imprint delivers it’s second release with ‘Under Attack’ from label boss Nik Frattaroli backed with a remix from Rio Padice this February.

Having been brought up in the Manchester acid house scene of the early 90s Nik Frattaroli has house music in his blood but while his cuts reference many of the genre’s classic tropes his music is very much a modern interpretation.

Axel’s Picks

So rather than clog the site up with posts about every release im in love with that week, ive decided its a little more tasteful to consolidate.

polkadot

Polkadot – Before You Know It

Free sounds from the young, inspired, Polkadot. This young British producer hailing from Wolverhampton is just another piece in the puzzle of the exciting UK scene right now.

This an excellent uplifting slice of garage with some really nice, although somewhat immature synth melodies. This guy will be on top form once he’s found his stride, mark my words.

jordanpeak

Jordan Peak – Mean Streets EP

Exploring a few different sounds within the record, the title track is a cheeky, jacking tune relying on three different vocal samples for melody. It works surprisingly well but doesn’t even scrape the surface of Jordans talent for a more musical sound. Done Did It is a big, relentless sound at times but their are moments of magic that remind me of our own Mic Newman.
