In The Deep End With Weekend Express

We love Weekend Express here at In The Deep End, his mature palette of samples and use of analog drum machines has really secured his place in our heart. Although once a hip hop DJ, Daniel Ooi has fast become one of Australias best house exports.

His Going 2 Chicago record on StilLove4Music was a huge success and the first pressing was gone within a matter of days, it also peaked in the top charts of Juno. He also achieved moderate success with A+O, a collaboration between himself and Melbourne social icon/DJ/Producer Andee Frost. A+O also released on the same StilLove4Chicago and although not so much close to home, the record was played by some big name spinners in the more underground of pastures.

Daniel also has a release as part of the first Melbourne Deepcast compilation record which featured alongside Lewie Day, Fantastic Man & Andy Hart. Deeper is an excellent showcase of his musical skill as well as the ability to chop samples, even though he does subtlety sample Oliver Cheatham . Although somewhat of a heavier 90's vibe, Deeper is still one of my picks for this year and will remain an excellent record for years to come.

He has an upcoming solo release on Melbourne Deepcast coming soon as well as another record on Kolour Recordings. Keep your eyes peeled and your wallets tight until the release date as these are sure to sell out quick smart.

Weekend Express has recorded a live mix on vinyl, and sent us the first take. So understand this is not going to be a flawlessly mashed up 45 minute waste of your time, this is a classy selection of records from one of Australias fastest growing underground talents.
